Job Application Assistant is a Chrome extension designed for personal use to help organize and manage job applications. This privacy policy explains what data the extension collects, how it's used, and where it's sent.

Data Collection and Usage

1. Job Content Data

What we collect:

• HTML content from job listing pages on LinkedIn and LaraJobs
• Job details including: title, company name, location, description, salary information, and application URLs

How it's used:

• Job content is extracted only when you explicitly initiate the action (via the extension popup button)
• Content is analyzed locally and can be exported as JSON for your personal use
• Analysis results are cached locally in your browser for performance

Important: We do not transmit, store, or retain any job content on external servers (except when you use the optional OpenAI analysis feature).

2. OpenAI API Configuration (Optional)

What we collect:

• OpenAI API key (if you enable AI analysis features)
• OpenAI model name and system prompts
• Stored locally in your Chrome browser using chrome.storage.local

How it's used:

• API key is sent directly from your browser to OpenAI's servers for job analysis
• We never transmit, store, or access your OpenAI API key
• You maintain full control and can remove it at any time via the settings page

3. Technical Data

What we collect:

• Extension version number

How it's used:

• For debugging and version tracking

Important: No personal browsing history, credentials from job sites, or identifiable user information is collected.

Data Transmission

OpenAI API (Optional)

• Job data is sent directly from your browser to OpenAI's servers
• Only occurs when you explicitly use the AI analysis feature
• Subject to OpenAI's privacy policy: https://openai.com/privacy

No Third-Party Analytics

• We do not use Google Analytics, tracking pixels, or any analytics services
• We do not collect usage statistics or telemetry

Data Retention

• Job Content: Not retained by the extension. Cached analysis results are stored locally in Chrome storage.
• Analysis Cache: Stored in Chrome's local storage until you clear the cache via the extension UI
• OpenAI API Key: Stored locally until you remove it via settings

Data Sharing

We do not share, sell, or transfer any data to third parties. The extension only communicates with OpenAI's API (only if you enable this feature and provide an API key).

User Control

You have full control over your data:

• View Settings: Open extension popup → "Open Settings"
• Clear Analysis Cache: Use the "Clear Cache" button in the extension UI
• Delete OpenAI API Key: Clear the API key field in settings and click "Save Settings"
• Uninstall Extension: Removes all locally stored data from Chrome

Security Measures

• No Hardcoded Credentials: OpenAI API key is user-provided
• Origin Validation: OpenAI API access is restricted to trusted job sites (LinkedIn, LaraJobs)
• Local Storage Only: API key and settings are stored locally in your browser
• Content Security Policy: Manifest V3 compliance with strict CSP

Permissions Explanation

The extension requires specific permissions to function:

• storage: Store your OpenAI API key, settings, and analysis cache locally
• scripting: Communicate between extension components
• webNavigation: Detect page navigation on single-page application job sites (LinkedIn)
• activeTab: Access current tab information when you click the extension
• host_permissions (LinkedIn, LaraJobs): Run content scripts to extract and analyze job data

All permissions are used exclusively for the stated functionality and no data is transmitted to external servers except when using the optional OpenAI analysis feature.

Children's Privacy

This extension is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy to reflect changes in functionality. The "Last Updated" date will be modified accordingly. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
